Job Description:

The Space Management Team, known as Shelf Edge at H-E-B, coordinates with Merchandising, Pricing, and Advertising, and collaborates with Procurement, Forecast and Replenishment, suppliers, and brokers. Shelf Edge works closely with retail Store operations to plan and execute all in-Store space management assortment / merchandising changes, price image, tags, and marketing programs.

Job Responsibilities:

  • As a Space Planning / Merchandising Process Manager II,
  • You’ll focus on Total Quality Management of Space Planning’s training and education.
  • You’ll create, develop, and implement innovative training and education initiatives that challenge the current way we do things, and that enhance the Team’s impact on H-E-B’s success, and raise cross-functional awareness and understanding of other stakeholder roles and information.
  • You’ll also mentor other Team Partners.
  • Creates / implements Partner-focused Space Planning programs that target total quality management of training, education, and development; continuously improves training, education, programs, and communications
  • Collaborates with Space Planning and other departments / teams to identify gaps and solutions in processes and systems
  • Oversees reviewing / testing of processes for accuracy; implements corrections as needed
  • Identifies / implements ways to streamline, standardize, and verify processes
  • Ensures / provides space planning-related support for business needs and requests; seeks buy-in from space planning-related stakeholders; oversees user acceptance testing / feedback
  • Collaborates with Table and Layouts team members to develop / test special layouts, tables, highlights, and labels and reports
  • Leads special project teams; serves as project team advisor / trainer to improve stakeholder understanding of space planning processes and terminology
  • Collaborates with training team members to develop / administer training to new and incumbent Partners (e.g., Analyst onboarding)
  • Develops tailored training and shadowing programs for department and company Partners, and prospective analysts; coordinates POG- and floorplan-related training / education for Space Planning, Procurement, Forecast and Replenishment, Own Brand, and Global Sourcing Partners, specific to their functional roles
  • Initiates process- and tools-related training (e.g., markdown tools, dynamic flags, space planning floor plans, POGs, analysis tools)
  • Trains on tools and systems, clustering and assortment methodologies / processes, space fixture creation and fixture library / SOPs, and on business intelligence (BI) data as it integrates with space planning system(s) to ensure metrics-based decisions
  • Ensures training materials are tested and updated; ensures effective change management
  • Mentors / develops Partners to impact contribution to Space

Job Requirements:

  • Expert working knowledge of space planning software, planograms, inventory management systems, BI, syndicated data sources (IRI, ACNielsen) to train / coach others
  • Expert written / verbal communication and presentation skills
  • Expert PC skills, including MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook), and software programs / applications required by the job
  • Expert project management and analytical skills
  • Expert negotiation and influencing skills
  • Expert organization and time-management skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and shift focus between projects; attention to detail
  • Ability to lead large-scale projects from conception to implementation, and meet pre- and post- implementation timelines

Qualification & Experience:

  • A bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, finance, information systems, or related field
  • Experience in retail, merchandising, consumer packaged goods, or plan-o-grams (POGs) / space planning systems; training experience in retail / merchandising
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, finance, information systems, or a related field, or comparable experience
  • 7+ years of experience in retail space planning / execution (e.g., store operations, merchandising, space management, pricing, procurement, software applications, communications, or signs and tags)
  • 7+ years of experience in consumer-packaged goods sales
  • 5+ years of experience training in retail / merchandising
  • Experience analyzing complex sales and profitability at a macro or micro level
  • Experience working in JDA Space Planning software or comparable plan-o-gram software
  • Experience in inventory management systems
  • Experience reviewing Business Intelligence (BI) systems and syndicated data reports to make business decisions
  • Experience implementing comprehensive merchandising programs
